IDS WATER SMART INNOVATION

Intercommunity Development Social Organisation (IDS) WaterSmart innovation enhances water efficiency and sustainability within the agricultural sector. It integrates climate-responsive agricultural productive systems for crop and animal and water-saving methods, within the smart technologies cycle  (Satellite Data-(NDVI, ETo),  Mobile Applications, Smart Irrigation systems, Drones and soil moisture sensors).  The innovation utilises precision irrigation, rainwater harvesting, and soil moisture management and improves transparency, and control across the entire water supply chain. The approach fosters more sustainable food production, conserves vital water resources, and engages farmers and local communities in adopting water-efficient practices.

Water smart  technology is disruptive and transformative due to its improves water supply chain control by enabling real-time monitoring, data-driven decision-making, and efficient resource management. Sensors and IoT devices track water levels, quality, and usage at every stage, from sourcing to distribution. Advanced analytics and automation help detect leaks, optimize water allocation, and reduce waste. This leads to increased transparency, reliability, and efficiency, ensuring sustainable water supply for agriculture and other sectors. The innovation also monitors crucial environmental factors in real-time, achieving a notable 70 % reduction in water consumption for soil irrigation. It also enables farmers to access comprehensive farm data remotely, enhancing crop production and sustainability, thus advancing food security.
